Helping ‘needy’ keep warm

WINTER-warmer packs containing a thermometer and the popular “snood” scarf will soon be distributed to thousands of needy households to help them keep safe in cold weather.

Hampshire County Council, working with more than 40 partner organisations, has secured £319,000 funding from the Department of Health to deliver the “hitting the cold spot” packs to 50,000 homes.

Hampshire County Council’s executive member for adult social care, Cllr Felicity Hindson, said: “Together we will be delivering parcels to people of all ages to help them stay warm and safe within their own homes. I hope they find the packs useful and our advisors look forward to meeting with people who wish to seek further advice.”

The packs, including lots of useful information, will be handed out by a range of organisations including the Citizens Advice Bureau and district councils.

There is also a “No Cold Calling” sticker to prevent residents being targeted by rogue traders.
